| The Local Keswick Area... |
 |
Keswick is a wonderful location if you wish to explore the northern lakes and fells of the English Lake District.
The town is on the shores of Lake Derwentwater and is surrounded by magnificent fells including Skiddaw and Blencathra. The walking locally is excellent whatever standard you enjoy.
Several major walking routes such as the Cumbria Way and the Allerdale Ramble pass through the area, as well as cycle routes such as the Coast to Coast (C2C). |
Skiddaw, overlooking Keswick, is the 4th highest mountain in England and the views from the top are well known for being some of the best in the Lakes.
Whether it is walking, climbing, windsurfing, sailing, canoeing, horse riding, paragliding or mountain biking, there is always something for everyone in the Keswick area.
Derwentwater is popular for sailing, canoeing, windsurfing, rowing, fishing and has its own Keswick Launch Service stopping at several points around the Lake, allowing you to walk so far, and cruise the rest. |

The town itself is well known for it's excellent restaurants, tea shops and traditional inns, offering something for every taste and budget. Or there are plenty of excellent country inns in the surrounding villages.
Local villages such as Braithwaite and Portinscale offer a quiet alternative to the town itself and are within easy walking distance of Keswick. Or if you want to escape the crowds, the peaceful Northern Fells area behind Skiddaw, is only 25 minutes drive away. |
